I jumped at the chance to see Idina in concert even though I only knew some of her songs. I would have been satisfied just to hear her belt out :
"And nobody in all of Oz
No Wizard that there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!"
It was more magical than I ever imagined! There was a bit of a wait for the concert to get started but it was well worth it! She started the concert with bringing a couple who was sitting all the way in the back of the theater to the very front. When they came up she said " I look older up close huh? " She had a nice sense of humor and was able to deal with an unpredictable audience. She was beginning to sing one of my many favorite songs from Wicked "I'm Not That Girl" . I was getting excited she was going to start when this guy lets out this Ugh! She didn't get flustered she had to start over because this was being filmed for television. She said next time when you say that say it in a softer pitch so it sounds like Awe! She pulled it off beautifully! She of course sang "Defying Gravity" it gave me chills. I love that song because it inspires me not to settle and to believe in yourself even though others may not.
Idina also sang "Seasons of Love" from "Rent" and she dedicated it to the playwright Jonathan Larson. She said that he is the reason she gets to do what she loves today. She got her break in that play but Jonathan died before the play even premiered. It's so tragic he never got to experience the success of it all.
When she sang "Let it Go" she invited all of the children sitting up close on to the stage to sing with her. She was joking with all of their parents saying "You brought your kids to the casino". She gave them a chance to sing parts of the song all on their own. There was one boy who sang "The snow never bothered me anyway" but very angrily Idina said " I like that . It was really cute!
The show was done wonderfully I also liked how they mixed some songs with her play on "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" with the Beatles "Dear Prudence". She doesn't need fireworks or special effects for her show to be great her voice is enough.... an unforgettable night!
